Formerly known as Spectrum Health, Corewell Health West announced in January 2022 plans to build a state-of-the art facility on 215th Avenue next to Menards in Big Rapids Township. Big Rapids Care Center will relocate the Big Rapids Family Medicine practice, outpatient rehabilitation, occupational health and lab from their current locations and provide space for specialty care services.
The facility will also be the site of the first Corewell Health Urgent Care in the area.
“We are so excited to open this facility for the community and our team members,” Andrea Leslie, president of Corewell Health Big Rapids, Reed City, United (Greenville) and Kelsey (Lakeview) hospitals, said. “We have a large group of team members who are busy planning for the summer opening and construction is going very well.”
Dr. Peter Macdonald, a longtime family medicine provider at Big Rapids Family Medicine, said he was excited to move into the new facility.
“This is a quantum leap in our growth to better serve the Big Rapids area community,” he said. “Having multiple services under one roof in a state-of-the-art facility will make it easier to provide exceptional care.”
The facility is set to open in August 2023. The project is part of a $151 million investment by Corewell Health to expand its outpatient services and provide increased access to primary and specialty throughout West Michigan. It will open with Spectrum Health signage that will transition to Corewell Health at a later date.
